Lock-up in Deanside: pipes, clearances and what plaster will hide
Gas and water separation, pipe clips, noggings and external doors, checked before the plasterer arrives.
In short: Lock-up is the last look at services inside the walls. Plaster follows within days.
Gas and water must not touch
Gas pipes need at least 25mm separation from hot and cold water pipes. Contact is a common lock-up finding on builds around Deanside.
Copper tails at appliances
The last metre of gas pipe to an appliance should be copper. It is easy to see now and impossible once the wall is lined.
Clips and pipe ends
Pipes need clipping to the frame, and pipe ends need a nogging and clip so taps and outlets do not move later.
Is it really lock-up?
Under the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 lock-up means external doors and windows are installed. If they are missing at the visit, we record it.
Roof tiles
Tiles out of position at lock-up need resetting before they slip.
